Biofeedback & Neurofeedback

  • A specific treatment that allows you to control certain bodily functions, such as heart-rate, to alter your physiology and in turn, your emotions. This mind-body technique allows you to control your automatic body processes and switch yourself from a “fight or flight” nervous system, toward a regenerative nervous system state.  Biofeedback has also been commonly used by sports trainers for many decades.

  • A specific form of biofeedback which measures brain wave activity and works to help the brain regulate. Therefore, changes in behavior can change the brain, and changes in the brain can impact behavior.  The goal of neurofeedback is to use behavior to change the brain.  Through neurofeedback, you get information about how certain parts of your brain are functioning, which allows you to then reprogram how your brain works.  For example, researchers suggest that people with ADHD have an imbalance of certain types of brain activity.  Neurofeedback claims to correct this difference by training people with ADHD to use their brains differently.
